HiLife/LoLife, a double EP by the Martin Lutz Group, is a refreshing world jazz project that speaks to the moods and feelings of our present era. Martin Lutz, the group’s leader, set out to create a musical friend who accompanies us on life's convoluted paths.

Lutz spent much of his childhood in the East and South Africa. He has been inspired by musicians like Abdullah Ibrahim and Lokua Kanza, as well as Swedish pianists such as Lars Jansson and Esbjørn Svensson. The music is a kaleidoscope of contrasting colors, combining the joyous feel of African rhythms wrapped in Nordic melancholy.

HiLife comprises – as the title suggests - six tracks full of sun and Afro-Nordic vibrations. The music mixes simple harmonies with exotic rhythms injected with positive energy. LoLife, on the other hand, renders the melancholy side of life. With its soft darkness and light touch, the music is easy to listen to.
